At the Community Foundation, we are dedicated to transforming collective generosity into meaningful change for our region. Our mission is clear: from strengthening local nonprofits and empowering students to reach their educational goals, to nurturing women leaders and supporting outlets of creativity, we work in partnership to ensure that philanthropy has a lasting impact.
 
Reflecting on the past year, I am proud to share that we distributed $316,000 through our competitive grantmaking programs, which affected more than 173,600 adults and 69,300 children across the Red River Valley. We granted an additional $763,000 to regional charities through recommendations from our fund holders. These funds – totaling over $1 million - have supported critical initiatives that are tackling childhood poverty, expanding mental health services, providing safety for homeless animals, and offering sanctuary to those in crisis throughout Grand Forks, Walsh, and Polk Counties.
 
One poignant example of your generosity at work comes from a recent grant recipient, HOPE Inc. Nicole shares her son Alex's journey and how it has been impacted by your gifts:

“Our world was turned upside down when Alex was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma. Alex was a very happy, active, athletic, and tough 8-year-old boy. His world had been shattered after his amputation and the realization of all the limitations and adaptations needed for his previous activities. Through HOPE Inc., Alex is able to fully participate, be successful, and compete in activities that he CAN do! HOPE Inc. has helped Alex restore excitement, confidence, and happiness to replace his sadness!”
 
Since our founding 26 years ago, we have deployed over $13.7 million in grants, positively affecting thousands of individuals and families, like that of Nicole and Alex. This remarkable achievement is made possible through the leadership, trust, and commitment of our board members, fund holders, partners, and, most importantly, you - our valued donors.
