Summary of Need: Play therapy helps our youngest clients. Communicating with children who have experienced trauma has its own, unique set of challenges. Sometimes, the children are simply too young to put the trauma into words. At other times, the trauma itself has rendered them nonverbal. To overcome these obstacles, therapists at The Village Family Service Center (The Village) use play therapy. Children reconstruct "through play" the experiences that are part of the anger, fear, sadness or frustration impacting their behavior. Research supports play therapy as an effective therapeutic approach for a host of children's behavioral health concerns including trauma, abuse and neglect, grief and loss, attachment issues, and anger and aggression.
The Village would like to create a dedicated play therapy room. It would require making over our current space and the supplies and services needed to accomplish this include:
Services needed: Painting of the play therapy room. Through play therapy, our clinicians are able to help children express their feelings, communicate more effectively, and get at the root cause of their distress. Thank you for considering this request
