Regional Impact: The Grand Forks Veterans Memorial Park (VMP) is 6.2 acres with a 6' high, 40' long, Memorial Wall containing images from various conflicts/wars. There will also be Obelisks, Service Benches, Shelters and Equipment for picnics, Park Benches, Donor Recognition Wall, Memorial Stones to honor veterans, and the General Al Palmer Visitor Center. The VMP will be an outdoor gathering place, large enough to celebrate, recognize, remember, and honor those who are serving or have served in the military. Veterans, their families, and the public can gather to conduct Memorial and Veterans Day Services, celebrate Independence Day or other special occasions.
The Park will expose the general public to our community's rich military tradition and history: ND National Guard's 164th Infantry from 1885, Grand Forks AFB from the 1950's, and the thousand of local men and women who have served or are serving. The VMP will project the appropriate patriotic atmosphere for veterans and families to feel a degree of privacy in which to meditate and reflect on their loved ones who have served. The Park will become a destination location for the surrounding community, to include schools whose students, through a viewing of the Memorial Wall and the Kiosk in the Visitor Center, will learn about patriotism and the sacrifices our veterans and their families have made in order to make possible, the freedoms we have.
Summary of Need: We are seeking $150,000 for completing our Grand Forks Veterans Memorial Park General Al Palmer Visitor Center. The funding is for building materials and construction services.
