: In its initiative to direct funds toward local creative endeavors, the Community Foundation of Grand Forks, East Grand Forks and Region has named the recipients of this year’s Arts Regrant Program.
The Program offers financial support for local arts organizations who seek to inform and inspire the community with their creative vision. The entire available budget, totaling $115,905, was distributed among this year’s 14 selected projects.
"The Arts Regrant Program is working to bring rich art experiences to Grand Forks children, to energize our region, to increase access to the arts, and to support our community's artists and growing creative sector," said the Community Foundation’s Executive Director Becca Bahnmiller. She added the grants challenge artistic groups to think critically about their work and the impact it could have on the community.
The Empire Arts center, a 2018 and 2019 award winner, spoke fervently about providing paid opportunities for theatre professionals in the region. “In the last season alone, we accomplished this goal by employing over 60 local actors, directors, lighting designers, musicians, and other artists,” they wrote in their report for last year’s project.
Many applicants share a desire to introduce joy and culture to a broader audience. With funding from the Arts Regrant Program, they are better positioned to do so. Last year, the North Dakota Ballet Company was able to offer low-cost tickets to underserved families. In their report, they emphasized wanting to “provide a larger reach for arts and culture that [these families] would otherwise not have the opportunity to partake in.”
