Dolly Parton's Imagination Library logo next to the Community Foundation of Grand Forks East Grand Forks & Region logo
Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is a beloved early childhood literacy program that delivers free, high-quality books to children from birth to age five. Once enrolled, each child receives a brand-new, age-appropriate book each month - addressed to them and delivered right to their home. The program continues until their fifth birthday, inspiring a lifelong love of reading and learning from the very start.

Founded by Dolly Parton herself, the Imagination Library’s mission is simple but powerful: to ensure that every child - regardless of their family’s income - has access to books in the home and the joy of shared reading experiences.

Together, We Did It!
Because of the incredible generosity of our community, we have officially reached our fundraising goal to launch Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library in Grand Forks County. This milestone means eligible children in Grand Forks County will soon be able to receive a free, high-quality book mailed directly to their home each month, helping inspire a lifelong love of reading from an early age.

Enrollment for the program will officially open on July 1, 2026 at imaginationlibrary.com/check-availability. We also invite the community to celebrate this exciting milestone with us during a Community Celebration on August 11, 2026, at Grand Forks Public Library. More details to come.

We are deeply grateful to the donors, partners, and community champions listed below who made this possible. Click here to read the press release.

While we’ve reached our initial launch goal, ongoing community support remains essential to sustain and grow the program for local children and families in the years ahead. Every gift helps ensure more children can experience the joy and opportunity that comes with building a home library of their own.

Help us keep the books coming. Your gift today will help inspire a lifelong love of reading for local children and families.
  • $35 sponsors one child for a full year of books.
  • You can give a one-time gift, set up a recurring donation, or make a multi-year pledge.

Together, we can bring the magic of books into every child’s home, and help unlock the power of their imagination. Donate today and be part of something truly meaningful.

What is the Need?

Countless studies document the relationship between early literacy and school performance.  By providing the children of our community with quality, age-appropriate books, we seek to:
  • increase children's access to books,
  • encourage parents to read more often to their children,
  • support children in the development of a love for reading, and
  • better prepare children to begin school.

What is the Impact?

Improving early childhood literacy with Dolly Parton's Imagination Library creates opportunities for children to thrive so that they can succeed in school and help their communities grow and prosper.
  • Early literacy: Regular access to books helps build crucial language, critical thinking, and reading skills.
  • Family bonding: Monthly book deliveries spark shared moments of discovery and imagination.
  • Equitable opportunity: Every enrolled child benefits - no matter their background.

"Imagination Library was designed to help children dream more, learn more, care more and be more, and it is really working."- Dolly Parton
