Volunteer Leadership Connection Board Bank

A place where community members can connect with nonprofit organizations

in Grand Forks, East Grand Forks & Region

The Board Bank is a clearinghouse where information about people thinking about leadership opportunities and nonprofit board service can be connected to organizations seeking new board members.

No matter what your passion is - the arts, human services, the environment, or any of the areas served by nonprofit organizations, we invite you to complete an application to participate in the Board Bank, become involved in the community,

and develop your passion!

How does it work?

Once you've submitted your application, we will be able to match your interests and talents to the needs of a nonprofit board or committee in your chosen interest area. The nonprofit executive or board representative who is given your name will meet with you to share information about the organization and its board of directors, and answer questions which you may want ot ask (How much time does it take per month? When do you meet? Do you have a board manual & policies? What are your expectations for a new board member? What are your legal responsibilities? What is the financial commitment?). The organization will decide if this is the right match for you.

How do we help you develop your skills?

We will provide a two-hour 'Board Primer' seminar to help you learn the basics you need to serve on a board. We strongly encourage you to attend this session, strengthening your knowledge and, thereby, strengthening the nonprofit organization you have selected.

Knowing the basics is essential to becoming a successful board member!

What is the responsibility of the nonprofit organization?

Nonprofit organizations will meet personally with prospective board members. They will prepare materials for you which include basic information about the organization's mission and program, organization by-laws, board structure, information on meetings, committees, etc., and member expectations.

Organizations will also report back to the Board Bank if they have filled their open positions, and any resulting invitations or acceptances from Board Bank prospects.
